Yene Fanta Scholarship invites high school seniors across Texas to partake in our 5th annual scholarship drive. In 2025, Yene Fanta Scholarship fund will again award four scholarships in the amounts of two $2,500 and two $1,000 awards. Yene Fanta Scholarship was created by Ethiopians to support those in their community who have shown not only academic excellence but a commitment to service in their community and a desire in the future to continue this service. The scholarship will again be administered by the prestigious WORLD YOUTH FOUNDATION INC (WYF).

The scholarships were established in memory of Sister Fantaye Ashagre, a mother to not only the founder of the scholarship but a surrogate mother to many in the community. Through her faith in God, Sister Fantaye was a pillar of her community not only as a nurse of many years but also a big supporter of those in her Ethiopian community with her love and support. To show how much she was appreciated and loved, the Yene Fanta Scholarship was established in her memory so that the good that she instilled in our community will continue to reflect by those who will receive this scholarship. Sister Fantaye wore many hats successfully and gracefully, and now in honor and respect for her, Yene Fanta Scholarship will do our best to carry her legacy by starting this Scholarship program which we hope will grow in the coming years.

Requirements

The scholarships will be awarded to Ethiopian / Ethiopian-American seniors from a US public high school demonstrating scholastic achievement, leadership skills, and community involvement. Applicants must have an overall minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and plan to attend a 4 year college or university in 2025. Applicants must complete an online application and submit a typed 500-750 word double-spaced essay. The scholarships will be awarded to those that demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership skills, & community involvement and is a wonderful opportunity for college bound seniors to help fund their educational goals.

The deadline to apply will be April 15 th , 2025 and winner will announced on May 15th , 2025. World Youth Foundation will pay the awards upon receipt of a letter of acceptance from their college or university. Please email any questions you might have to info@yenefanta.org
